Quote:
(CNN) -- Grammy-winning guitarist Jeff Hanneman, a founding member of the heavy metal band Slayer, died Thursday of liver failure in Southern California, the band said in a statement.

Slayer was one of my favorite bands ever growing up. In the 80's I'd say they were the heaviest and scariest sounding band out there.

Any other Slayer fans on the Cafe?

Hanneman was the driving force behind Slayer, along with Lombardo. All the good riffs were written by him. RIP

Saw them when I was in Sixth form. I got a bruised rib after being pushed into the circle pit.
He really was the driving force. I had a drunken argument with someone last year about who wrote more of the songs, Hanneman or Kerry King. A lot of people just assume it's Kerry King.
What will happen now? The man who wrote Angel of Death is gone.
RIP Jeff Hanneman. Metal God.

It's sad.

I've only recently become a fan, although I've listened to their music on and off for about 25 years. Slayer's become the only band I listen to during my workouts. Their music really energizes me and it effectively drowns out the annoying pop music that's in constant rotation at the gym.

The take away lesson from this is not to abuse alcohol or you too could die in your 40s. Such a shame he died so young.

Ancient scripts in india say that a soul takes minimum 7 years for rebirth.
Although there is not hard and fast rule for a soul reincarnation, I always hope for the best.

Therefore rejoice for the life he had, and his soul may find a suitable situation and be reborn again.

If you are tired, listen to these songs and you will no longer be tired. Surprised (I'm rocking it right now to get pumped up as I do some work.)

New Slayer song from their forthcoming album is out, and like their last god-knows-how-many albums, it's dull and uninspired. With Hanneman and Lombardo gone I think it's time to call it quits.
