Basically at work we teach the whole day. There is a brief lunch and prep time, but otherwise we are in the classroom teaching. Unfortunately we are not given enough time to complete our work (grades, journals, comments, essays, and the like) during our contracted times. This leads us to have to take work home or stay late and complete it. What exactly is the overtime rule for? Is it for teaching beyond our hours? If we do not have time during the day then we should tough it out? It would be one thing if we were not putting our work off, but we are not given any time to do it.

Check your contract. Mine specifically states overtime is for teaching hours outside of my usual contracted hours. On the occasions I have to work late for another reason, I don't get overtime.
