I don't think I ever saw him in anything besides The Rockford Files and The Notebook, but he was superb in the former as the streetwise ex-con turned private-eye.

And, to pre-empt the joke....

Guess he REALLY can't come to the phone right now!

Yeah I used to love Rockford Files. Stuart Margolin was great in that as well playing the shifty "Angel".
