|
|
What are some of the more interesting and successful dates you guys had?
I'm looking for something besides the usual dinner and drinks around itaewon/hongdae.
something more productive.
Could be a daytime event, too.
I'd like to hear the specifics- the location, activity, ect, and how it panned out for you guys.
thanks in advance. |

Biking or running along the Han. Or just having a picnic somewhere along the river.
Walking the downtown stream.
Bowling. Yeah, I know, but it's not un-fun and it's something to do.
Camping, if you're BOTH into it and have (or can borrow) the gear.
Rent a pension outside Seoul. Gapyeong is nice (good for camping, too). A lot of places will even pick you up at the station if you don't have a car.
Hiking. Tons of mountains in and around Seoul.
Keep an eye out for festivals, both in and outside of Seoul. You just missed the big annual mud festival.
Olympic Village in Pyoungchang.
Take a cooking class together.
Take Taekwondo together.
Seoul has interconnected paths through woods that circle pretty much the whole city. Do a leg or two.
Take a barista class together.
Take salsa classes together.
Join a language group together. |

I love the bowling idea. With only one exception, I've never known anyone to look good in bowling shoes. And unless you're experienced, everyone kind of just sucks at it. So it's a great way to discover if you have a potential partner that can go with the flow. |

The drawback is that K bowling alleys don't serve beers. |

Dude, if bowling and simultaneous beers figure into your decision to move anywhere, let alone Asia, don't bother with the move lol... |

I'm a Canadian born and raised in a blue collar labor town. So. Yes. Lane sports + beer are huge considerations. |

and it's only big ball bowling which I hate. I like small ball bowling which it is in my hometown. |

...as for dating, it's too hot to do anything right now. You'll just sweat like a mother effer. Wait another six weeks. Ha ha. But, there's always cool things to do that cost little money. Just be creative.
Also, avoid the older, poorer, or more traditional parts of town. That's where the xenophobia most resides. Stick to the newer more developed areas for a date with a K chick. |

Blue collar family from a blue collar city here, too, but bowling with beers, as much as they were a part of my youth, just simply didn't factor into my decision to work internationally.
Either you've (TorontoToronto) been tongue in cheek, or you really need to think hard about your capacity to work abroad. It's not for everyone. And while Korea is, compared to 20-30 years ago, far from a difficult place to work and live, it's not your hometown. |

They began beer buffet bowling places a couple of years ago in busan. Sure they had them in seoul before that. see if you can find one.
You can also usually bring a bag-o-beer with you into a pool hall. Hold it up when you walk in and ask the counter person, "Is beer ok?" 10-out-of-10 places ive been to here said it was fine. Just don't make a mess or puke everywhere. Crush the empty cans and put them back in the bag you brought them in with. Dont forget to say thanks when you exit. |

Clearly I'm being tongue in cheek. I've spent a decade living and working in the USA and Singapore. As I've discussed on another thread, Singapore is probably best thought of Asia Light. It's a well ordered, English speaking multi cultural society. |

Figured as much. Maybe you could use a stint in Korea so that you can get more of a real expat experience. |

You can usually bring your own beer though, which is almost better. |
