Can anyone explain how this works, and if it's worth doing? Do I have to register my phone number somewhere?
I started using cash to stay on budget, and my Korean is good enough that they will ask if I want a cash receipt (한국영수증). I still don't really understand how Korean income tax works since the employer seems to file for you, but now that I'm using cash I want to be sure I'm not missing out on deductions. |

Ask your boss to register you for a 현금영수증카드(Tax Save Card it says on mine in English) at the tax office. Give it, with your cash, when you pay. Or, your number, if you want...I don't like barking my number out with others around listening, but maybe I shouldn't worry about that?

Think you can use a phone if you want...
App on play store is called "국세청 홈택스". Not sure though as I don't use it. It appears that there used to be a mobile, or "M" tax save card app, but not there now. Ask your boss. |

You (or a Korean friend) can register you for the 현금영수증카드 at www.taxsave.co.kr. If you make a lot of cash purchases during the calendar year this can help you reduce your tax burden during the Korean tax season filing season (right before Lunar New Year). |
