I have a job offer from Wonderland. I just want to know if anyone has had experience working with them and if they could let me know what kind of place it is to work. They have sent a contract and it looks good (with the little knowledge I have of Korean contracts). I can post it if someone likes. I've never taught in Korea before. Thanks! |

It's for the Daegu Wonderland school. What should I expect if I take the job? |

Expect to come up short on pay. Expect the contract will not be honored. Expect to work extra and not be paid for it. Expect not to receive all of your pay at the end of the contract. This isn't an attempt to troll. Avoid Wonderland. You have been warned. |

I rank Daegu as one of the top five cities in Korea for living and working.
Wonderland is at the bottom of the trash barrel. |

Yup, Wonderland is considered the overall worst place/chain to work at. |

The friends were excited to land seemingly exotic positions teaching English as a Second Language, or ESL, at a small private school in Daegu, South Korea. They set out on their journey in high spirits, expecting to have the experience of a lifetime...only to have their adventure turn into a misadventure when they became Prisoners of Wonderland.

I also am being offered a position at Wonderland. The reputation of Wonderland is what makes me desire a position through EPIK for my first time. What is the best way to decline an interview or job offer when you're a first time TEFL teacher? |

Just tell them “I am not interested in a position with Wonderland, thank you for your consideration.” |

I think this serves as a good reminder for prospective newcomers to Korea (or anywhere else) to do an internet search of your potential school before you sign up. You can read the entire book being referred to in this thread on Google Books.
If you are not under any urgent financial pressure to sign up to the first thing that comes your way, take your time to find the best school that you can. I personally don't work for private language institutes because of the pressure to keep students and to teach as many classes as a school can fit in to a day. If students numbers start dropping at any point, you are the first one to be blamed regardless of the actual reason.
The hiring for government schools will have largely been done at this point, but there may be some last-minute openings for them if you have all your visa documents ready to go. |

I almost took a job at Wonderland. I thought it was a branch of DisneyLand. |

Looks like it is!!
"Melissa and I arrived in South Korea this evening. After a twenty-six hour trek through four cities and five airports, we are finally here. With the help of Chris, we have been retained by the Seodaegu Wonderland School for Children, located in Daegu, the third largest city in South Korea."
Yikes. Stay away from this school for sure. |

I doubt it. Unless it gets made into a movie with Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Watson. |
