I got an E2 for a job that back out before flying me over, therefore I have a visa in my passport valid for entry until March 2019. I'm assuming they have to cancel it but I know even so that I can't get a new E2 until the contract term has ended next year. However, what happens if I want to go to Korea as a tourist? The E2 is still in my passport and I won't know for sure what they've told immigration. Would I have any issue upon arrival or departure? Also, if I wanted to go to Korea for Korean language school, can I even do that?

I would wait until Tom comes back around to answer your question. It may be a few days, but he should be able to point you in the right direction.

As an American with a 1-year, multi entry E2 you are pretty much screwed. |

IF you can get a letter of release you can enter on the E2 and switch to a D10.
If you cannot get a LOR there is nothing you can do until March 2019.

You can enter, depart and ask to have the current E2 canceled but that will not allow you to take other work.

I thought it mattered whether an ARC was issued within a certain time period? Is that a long ago thing???

I figured I was out of luck getting a job for the year, although I was hoping that law had changed or was inaccurate. Or as was mentioned, does it matter if no ARC was issued? At this point I'm more concerned about going just for travel but having issues at the airport due to the visa.

The ARC related to residence... and has no bearing on the visa in this case.

that hagwon and that hagwon only was thhe sponsor, if they backed out, it still has to be transferred to another school, otherwise how will you work? as an American you can enter Korea without a visa however

The problem is that he already has an E2 but no job and no LOR.
