How many teachers here actually have 15 or more government/english curriculum classes a week? This doesn't count after-school classes. I'm talking only about the actual government curriculum (textbook) classes.
I should think that only those in big cities or big schools where there is more than 1 class per grade would actually have 15+ classes per week. But everyone else in a school where you only have 1 class per grade (ie. one grade 3 class for the entire school, one grade 4 class for the entire school, one grade 5 class for the entire school, etc.) would only max out at 10 classes per week (twice for grade 3, twice for grade 4, three times for 5, and three times for 6 for a total of 10 per week). |

I worked at a government middle school which only had a grand total of 3 classes per grade. The contracted teaching hours during the scheduled workday included:
- "Textbook" classes, as you call them
- "Lunch Cafe" classes
- "Dinner Cafe" classes
- Group tutorials
- "Public hagweon" classes
All of this was an effort to get the exact number of contracted class hours out of me. What it did, in reality, was cheat me out of my own time (lunch, planning, etc.), and was a big part of pushing me out of the country. |
