Hi Everybody,

I'm looking for a book that is about teaching English one on one.
I volunteer teach Koreans and Japanese in Calgary, so I'm not interested in how to find students.
When people find out the lessons are free they kinda sell themselves.
Right now we just have conversation and I correct what they are saying wrong and try to explaing words they don't know.
But I want to make it better.
I want to learn more about it so I can teach more effectively.

I'd like the book to include how to find someones english level and I also don't have a lot of money so if everything can be found in one book that would be a lot better.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Daniel,
The only book I've ever seen on the issue is this one:

Teaching One to One, by Tim Murphey, published by Longman - copyright 1991.

A good starter book for 1:1 teaching.

Loads

I've just got hold of #3 on this list, which seems fairly comprehensive.

i love breakingnewsenglish.com for 1:1

has current, interesting articles that your students can read aloud, pre- and post- questions, multilple choice, matching definitions, everything.
works great to do together or to give them as homework.
you can print as word docs or pdfs or something else too, i forget.
and it's free.
no signup.

it is a blessing for my privates. if i did any. cuz i dont. they're illegal. bad foreigners. bad.bad.
