Last night I was walking along a street in Daejeon and was approached by a Korean man who tried to recruit me to come work at Woncheon High School. Apparently his foreigner will be leaving at the end of this month. The job is at a public high school, 2 hours per day, but of course keeping 9-5 hours are required.

I was in disbelief when he told me the monthly pay was "almost 1.4 million." First of all, no thank you. Secondly, for what foreigner already working in Korea would 1.4 be an upward move?

Anyway, do you know the person working at this school? Just curious.

well, if the school is flexible on the 9 to 5 thing, then it might be great for someone with lots of privates- or just someone reallly lazy- the pay is great for the hours worked.

Dude, that job would be the bomb!

They have to say "9 to 5" because that's what my school had to say, too. But they let us come and go early.

It MIGHT be the same there....

If they let you off early, holy crap. Teach 2 hours, get 1.4 then do the hagwon thing. You would be pulling in 3.5 million a month. Thats IF they let you off early and gave you permission to do a 2nd job. If not, then the salary is a joke.

If you got to hang out all day (9-5) for just 2 hours of teaching, that would not be a good job. It might be a good chance to read a few books with all that spare time. But as said, if you can get away with just being around for classes/preparation/marking/whatever, then it might be good. Hopefully housing, E2 etc,, is provided.
