Does anybody know if Cheju National University offers Korean language classes for foreigners? I've searched their website and sent emails but have had no answer...any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure about Korean classes, but I do know they have a horrible reputation for treating teachers like crap and not paying on time etc...

If thats how much they care for teachers, I wouldn't expect a quality Korean language program. Nor would I support them by taking classes even if they had a good program.

Yes they do. In fact, a class is now starting up and some foreign teachers are trying to get others interested or the class will be canceled.

Rand al Thor and hellofaniceguy,

Thanks for the info! Rand, I had heard that from other post here before re: their rep for treating teachers. I'm looking to take 4 months or so of Korean classes full-time; a lot of universities have summer and international student programs to study Korean, and I was thinking that doing it on the lovely island of Cheju-Do would be nice. But if they only have one class that might be cancelled, it's not worth the effort. I'm looking for a program with at least 3 hours of classes a day for at least a semester; sounds like they don't have that. Thanks again!

I always wanted to live on Jeju/Cheju, as I really think the people are so nice.

However: They seem to be stuck in the stone age when it comes to treating employees with respect. They treat foreigners like Koreans and guess what?

No one wants to work in Jeju/Cheju!

Um you could think about the following. Chedju Uni's management can't be trusted period. Their word is not worth one won.

You've just really scared me about Jeju.. I will find out in a month where I am placed, but i put Jeju as my #1 because it seems like such a beautiful place. Why do you say they treat foreigners like crap??

Are you talking all schools in Jeju or just one in your experience or what??

i will probably be placed in an elementary school, so i can't imagine that the treatment of teachers is the same for all schools in Jeju.. please someone say something positive about jeju if you can!
