I've often wondered about this, too. I never heard any stories about it during the war. The stories appeared suddenly, but I don't remember just when I started hearing them.

My take on it is that the first time someone said it, it was meant metaphorically. Then some literal-minded people took it to mean it really happened.

It's been a handy though false club to beat anti-war protestors over the head with for decades now.

nothing "false" about being called "baby killers" (as my brother was) and all the other venom that was spouted by many anti-war protestors

nothing false about Jane "Traitorous Bitch" Fonda hobnobbing with the Commies...

I think it might be because she committed no crime ... you see, our govt never formally declared war on N Vietnam, so she was not in any way restricted from visiting Hanoi by exiosting statutes.

If I'm wrong about that, some will correct me I'm sure.

Here's what one of your fellow vets just said yesterday on the topic (unless I'm completely misunderstanding him) of baby killing.

A Korean guy once said:

Big VC make little VC
Little VC make big VC
Kill ALL VC, we go home.

Damn straight.

So, I take it that means I misunderstood what you were trying to communicate, then? Or am I wrong again? Your communication style in response to clarifying questions makes it a little difficult to understand just where you stand on these issues.

She will forever remain a lightning rod for those of us who view her as the author of the article below does. Our opinions were formed in a situation, place and time far different from the present and far different from that of those who were not in that particular situation and place way back then.

Yes, she will forever be viewed as she is by many of us. She deserves no less.

Hate to say it, but either you're either a bit slow or are harping on this just to bug him.
