most, but not all, summer camps prefer to hire teachers already here with visa's and just get them a 2nd job visa. Otherwise you will be illegal. It is possible to get those jobs, but getting deported and paying huge fines is common when working at summer or winter camps.

do they actually bother about kicking out people on tourist visas who are working camps?

how do they catch you?

Most camps here in China are run on tourist visas, as people come specially for them (differnet from 'regular' work).

yes they do kick ppl out. How do they find out, come to the camp and ask to see your passport/visa and/or id card.

Not very difficult.
