Panel begins probe of pro-Japanese acts

May 31, 2005 �� A presidential committee to uncover pro-Japanese activities during the colonial occupation period in the early 20th century officially begins work today.
For the next four years, the Truth Commission on Pro-Japanese Activities will investigate those allegedly involved in "anti-national" activities between the 1904 Russo-Japanese War and 1945, when the country was liberated.
Scores of high-profile figures are expected to be included in the probe. Among them, former President Park Chung Hee's activities will be investigated because he was a high-ranking military officer in the Japanese Army.
The government has awarded the descendants of those recognized for fighting for the country's liberation with monthly pensions. But the investigations are expected to show that not all of their ancestors were actual national heroes.

While the chance for some entertaining public embarrassment of leading figures in the Noh/OOPs group is high, the real intent is to destroy the GNP and stir up anti-Japanese sentiment. Given the current level of anti-Japanese feeling, things are not looking good for improvement any time soon.

A few weeks ago there were anti-Japanese demonstrations in China. I figure the chance of anti-Japanese demonstrations in Seoul are very good. What better way to make a Chinese alliance look good?
