Can someone recommend a nice beach on the east coast? Someplace fairly close to Daegu or Gyongju, has clean water, clean sand, not too difficult to get to by bus, and is not too crowded? A place with yeogwans nearby would be nice as well.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Clean, wide, picturesque, but few facilities where we went. Not far from Sorak-San so maybe a bit far north for you, but the coastal route stays pretty close to water's edge so you can stop and start as you go. Probably would be a good bike trip.

i liked maengbong (sp?) beach near samcheok. i liked it because there were hardly any people there and didn't have annoying music playing over a loud speaker like a lot of other beaches. nice and quiet. |

Anywhere from 10 miles or so below the DMZ. You'll find the coastline vary, some places are sandy and open, others are rocky. A few nice places are Han Beach. There is a resort nearby and also the former home of the North Korean President. Its near some Buddhist temple where a fire burned last year.
Another place is near the big boat on a hill. Sorry don't know the name, but someone else here might. Lovely views and beaches.
The east coast has some amazingly clear water. It's also a little cooler than the west, so its not your typical beach weather.
There is a sauna nearby that is 6000W. If you can tolerate saunas, it's a cheap place to clean up and sleep.
Since the DMZ is a tourist spot, masses of busses can be seen in the area. So getting a bus out there should be easy. Take some pictures and post them up here for the folks. |

I second Sokcho east of Soraksan. Try Pohang around the Daegu area. |

Gyeungpo Beach which is near Geungnang. Its almost 2km of beaches.. really sandy.. throughout the entire 2km you have tons and tons of minbaks and yeogwans.. you can rent 3-wheelers (or I saw people driving them around hotdogging around anyways). Lots of restaurants and some bars around there too.
I've been to Sokcho twice visiting friends.. also quite nice.. but didn't see any beach in Sokcho quite as long or as beach-oriented as Gyeongpo Beach in Geungnang. |
