I am not a yankee (and I don't mean this in a derogatory way)... but Happy 4th July anyway!

Hmm, not much to celebrate, except not being there for the self-congragulatory orgy of patriotism and ideology.

Just my disgruntled opinion? My much more conservative sister who celebrates her birthday today will celebrate by turning off all of the media and staying home out of disgust over the lies and hipocracy being promulgated there these days.

Glad I'm not there. I probably won't be turning on CNN or AFN, either.

I actually like to be called a yank.

Has a nice ring to it.

Chiaa, this is not personal. Wink

But isn't "yank" synonomous with "jerk"? Cool

(yeah, I'm a jerk, er, yank, myself.)

Happy holidays!

(From another non-Yank, pro-USA, anti-u-no-hoo).

Wangja, that anti-u-no-hoo individual you mentioned...

Hoo wood that bee? Does the name rhyme with "tush?" Or "lush?"

It's the 229th anniversary of a bunch of Americans writing a letter to the king of England telling him where he could stick his tea tax. Anybody who loves liberty ought to celebrate this day. Even the French.

I definitely do!! You should have seen me on election day last year. We cooked up a huge feast in anticipation of a Bush victory, sat around drinking beers while watching the results pour in. It was difficult not to gloat the next day. I'm hoping to go out tonight for a brewskie with some of my neighbors, non-American though they may be. You don't have to be American to celebrate liberty. Ours and the recent liberty of Iraq from an evil dictator. You poor things who can't even turn on the tv or leave the house. *sigh* You're missing some good bbq.

That was really good: I am delighted to see that irony is form of wit in USA.

When I read Desultude's post, I thought to myself, "oh great, here we go with the fanatical homegrown 'crap on my country' diatribe." Then I read your post and thought, "Hmm, maybe she isn't so fanatical afterall."

Both of your posts depressed me. Very Happy

But wangja, being the witty english gent that he is, provided me with a good chuckle.

Regardless, I know I enjoyed my first 4th of July weekend in 5 years here in the States with that good ol' BBQ.
