Hi there, I am a newly qualified TEFLer, and i have a job offer from HuntESL to go and work at Wonderland in this city. I've read mixed reports of the franchise, any-one have any direct knowledge of this particular school? Also, any info about the city would be much appreciated . Please try to be as nice as possible, as I don't want to get scared off! This has been a life-long dream to work abroad. |

Wonderlands have a horrible reputation throughout Korea and justifibly so. Read the "Prisoner of Wonderland" website for a true horror story, its not an isolated problem its linked under very useful websites above(there is an adage here friends don't let friends work for Wonderland) those girls have links to stories at other Wonderland franchises. With that said there MAY be one or two that MAY be OK. Get home/cell phone numbers of teachers who are working there, do not call them at school they may not be able to give accurate info.
I've been in Gwangju now going on 15 months, its perhaps the most provincal big city I've lived in not a lot of western resturants though there is supposed to be a TGI Fridays opening here soon, very quiet compared to even Taejon. There are decent grocey stores E-Mart, Lotte Mart and the dept stores (Lotte and Shinsegae) have decent supermarkets. Expats tend to hang out at 2 clubs called the Blue Monkey and Mad Season I've only been to the BM once and didn't care for it. On the upside there is an organization called the Gwangju International Center that do a lot for the expat community, they offer Korean classes and do tours once a month that aren't bad. Also there is a professional baseball and soccer team here if you are into that.
any other info PM |

Do you think the trained monkey would say a good thing about the school?
What if that person gets to leave if you come on board?
Wonderland = Crap Job |

At a Wonderland at the moment. Complete rip off! I'm owed a small fortune in wages, which i'm unlikely to get. One excuse after another as to why i don't get it (eg: "The schedule has been thrown away, so i can't check how many hours you worked"). I'm just waiting for my contract to finish! Not saying that it's a real contract. They don't keep to it.
Don't work there |
