Hiddink has just been named head coach for the socceroos after Frank Farina was fired... hopefully he can pull another rabbit out of his hat, and at least get them to qualify |

I heard the koreans begged him to come back! but he didnt want too.
he thought he left on such a high note! it would be best to leave it that way! I mean what if Korea didnt make it to the second again??
they would all blame hidiink! I mean come on its not the players fault is it!!
hahahahha how many coaches as the koreans fired becuase of not winning!
so I guess hiddink did the right thing.. Korea will be VERY lucky to make it to the second round this time..
WAY TO GO AUSSIES!!! |

That's not what Hiddink reckoned:
Quote: |
Hiddink denied a report from a Korean sports newspaper that the Dutchman has been waiting for an offer from the Korean Football Association. "Not from my side and not from KFA side (we didnt talk) about the coaching situation in Korea," he said. "Korea qualified for the 2006 games in Germany which is their sixth consecutive achievement, so its a compliment to the people who achieved it. There is no need to go for a different situation. Not from me, nor from KFA side."
But perhaps Hiddink hinted that the KFA should have contacted him. "Ive not been waiting for that. I am not a person to ask 'is there a job for me?' There were four federations who contacted me and I choose Australia. I think the people in the KFA have a lot of respect for what happened in the qualification round (with current South Korean manager Jo Bonfrere)," he said. |

Hiddink usually switches teams after a WC run.
Netherlands 1998
Korea 2002
Australia 2006....
He rarely stays on for 2 consecutive cups. |

To be fair though, very few managers are actually around long enough to lead the same nation to two consecutive World Cup tournaments. Also four years is a very long time in club football management these days...
He's also accepted a position as a consultant for the new FC Gyeongnam team so he's certainly keeping himself busy, and still involved with Korean football in a small way. |

Getting Korea to the semi-finals was brilliant, but getting Australia past the qualifiers will take a miracle. |

I've never understood why West Australians hate the eastern seaboard so much. What's up with that?
I have plenty of faith in my fellow Aussies. It's just that soccer is so damned... unaustralian.
C'mon, you know it's true. |

Who decides what's unAustralian?
Why we don't like the East?
First of all, it's not that serious, but part of it is Eastern States companies coming over to WA & taking our mineral wealth with too much of the profits going back East.
But more importantly though this doesn't really apply to you as a league man, it's to do with in the old days the VFL clubs taking our best players & in more recent times, Victorian footy fans whining cos the AFL has hurt their clubs. We had to pay to get in & it's decimated the WAFL. |

I post sober, so I have no excuse at all for my nutbaggery!
Alright. I'll amend "unaustralian" to "not traditionally Australian".
But you've got to admit, the culture of "diving" and constantly faking injury and whining like schoolchildren, which is rampant in soccer, would be seriously frowned upon in any major Australian sport.
Take that dive by Rivaldo at the World Cup. You would NEVER see that in league or AFL. Any player who tried it would be ostracised. It's just contrary to the culture of Australian sport. |

AFL players have been acting for free kicks for years, probably since the game began. |
