Hello,

My name is Daniel Gray and I'm a gyopo from America and I am trying to get an F4 visa. I am currently in Gyeong Ju and I need to find someone who can speak and write fluent Korean so I can go to the immigration office in Daegu and fill out my forms for the F4 visa.

I want to make sure that it goes correctly, because I am deathly afraid of being mistaked for a Korean citizen and sent to the Korean military.

I would be willing to pay well for you services - a fee for your help and translation, transportation costs, lunch - all the Korean amenities. Thank you !

Dan

I can't help you directly, but a lot of taxis have a sticker in the back side window that gives a phone number for 'English Service' (or something like that). Get the number and ask them for the phone number of a professional translator. You might also try at one of the bigger hotels. Kyeong Ju is a major tourist center. The city tourist bureau might have that kind of information. You might even try the police. They may keep a number on hand for when they need it to deal with a foreigner.

Lesson #1 for being in Korea: Think creatively when trying to solve a problem. Wink

Good luck.

PS: Just in case you end up in the ROK army--wages have gone up recently to W30,000 a month and the barracks are being up-graded as we speak. They'll finish in 2010.

Yeah....30,000 a month and "nicer barracks"....makes me wanna join.

Anyhow, I think you should be very careful with getting any kind opf a family visa, what with you being of Korean heritage. I am not trying to be alarmist, but there is quite a bit of political action in this area these days....you might get swept up.

But hey, those wages and nice, 'prison-ish' accommodations do sound lucrative.
