over the last couple of years here I have noticed and heard about more foreigners owning schools.. I have never acually met anyone who works for one. so just wondering where you all stand, would you or would you not..

for me I would say no.. I mean I didnt come to korea to work for a foreigner I could do that back home...

I used to work part time for a foreign owned agency that farmed out teachers to businesses where there are demands for language teachers.

The owner of the agency paid me decent wages on time, more than I made on full-time, regular job in terms of hourly rate. And she phoned me on regular basis to get my feedback about the courses I was teaching and I was happy with the way she included my opinion in the curriculum development.

I'd like to think that a western boss would be more likely to honor the written terms of any agreement as well as the labour and immigration laws, yet at the same time I've had one Korean boss who went well above and beyond what any Western boss would ever do for employees...
in the end I wouldn't consider nationality to be a deciding factor.

I think it's in the nature of the industry- private ESL education seems to have attracted more than its fair share of inept and corrupt ownership regardless of the location.

Well, I am in the planning stages for opening a school with a buddy of mine. Our priorities are curriculum (very unique design in Korea), students that actually learn, teacher satisifaction, & finally money. Teachers will be very well taken care of in our school. Good wages and benefits.
