Just wondering if this is possible..
In a contract, want to leave, do not want to give notice for a myriad of reasons.
So, leave, do privates, rent house..stay here for 6-8 months and then leave korea. My original contract is to run out in February.
What will happen when I go to the airport in 6-8 months...?
Has anyone done this?
Is it feasible?
When renting, what documentation do I need to show?
any help greatly appreciated
cheers |
This will not work. First of all your boss will need another foreigner to fill your shoes. So when he goes to fill in the paperwork, he will cancel your visa(and that's if he didn't right after you left). So when you went to the airport you would be caught and fined 100,000 won for each day you overstayed the cancelation of your visa. There is no way around this. You MUST leave the country. What you could do however is leave and come back on a tourist visa. However getting privates is not that easy and the cost of a house will more than eat up what you make in privates.
Do you have any idea how much a house costs here? Plus most people will NOT rent to a foreigner. They know the foreigner can skip out at any time and they will be out that month's rent.
So to put it in a few words. It is just about impossible. |

Leave to get the exit stamp - have a nice holiday in Japan - return on a tourist visa and take your chances - if you get busted it's your own silly fault.
Why not go to Japan and work there for a while? |

If Immigration decides to fine you and you are unable/unwilling to pay the fine, you get to stay in the lock-up until someone else pays your fine. |

haha..squaffy, no my mental faculties are just about there..
just testing the water..i knew people who were in a similar situation in Israel..when they got to the aiport, immigration tried to fine them..on seeing they had no means of payment, they just put them on the next flight..cheaper for the authorities..I was wondering if the koreans would do a similar thing..
but due to the resounding negative response to my 'plan', i will now reconsider..although '12 months in hell;my life in a korean prison' would certainly make for an interesting chapter of a book... |

Everytime you leave the country, you get a three-month visa for re-entry so go to japan a few times in the next couple months.
I have a few friends doing the same and they have had no problems...yet... |
