walwart VS Costco? same thing or alittle different?
I live close to a walmart and kinda close to Yangae St for costco..
We have heard that Costco has a lot of foreign stuff.. but I can find almost everything around Emart, Walmart department stores,,
Is Costco really really good compared to walmart?? |

I'd like to know where the walmarts are? I live in central north seoul (Ewha area) and wonder if there are any that are within a short drive. |

be prepared to unload some big bucks, as they sell most things in bulk cases (or maybe it just seems like bulk compared to everything in Korea).
No matter how hard we try to be frugal, everytime my family goes there we spend a MINIMUM of 350K won.
Happy shopping!
And they don't take credit cards. Only one local one, but i cannot remember which. |

I have been to a couple CostCos in Seoul. They have quite a bit. I know there are posts here that talk about what you can buy. It is definitely worth checking out. |

I guess I'm going to pull the noob card and say "I had no idea there was more than one"
I'm in Gangnam.
Closer would be nice, but access to a subway station is probably equally important!
Unless I end up buying enough velvetta that I can't fit in into the subway and I have to take a taxi, then proximity would take precedence over accessibility.
It's funny because I'm fat.
Anywho, I do realize that I'm asking on here as opposed to doing a 5 second google search...butttt.....
I do appreciate the advice.

Oh, it is definitely worth it, even if you have to taxi there and fight insane crowds, and then taxi back with your arms full of giant bags. Still totally worth it!
The food court is exactly like in the States: Hot dogs, pizza, churros, etc. It was so glorious!
I bought so much cheese! It's so much cheaper than buying it at a foreign food market. I also bought fantastic coffee, crackers, bread, delicious frozen ravioli (perfect for lazy dinner nights) and the individually sealed frozen chicken breasts were perfect for cooking with all the time.
The first time I went I spent 200,000 won.....oops :0 |

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but all I hear about Costco is the food court is like back home and you spend 100s of thousands in the supermarket. These two together would tempt me to go there for a meal but shop at Home Plus. In HP you can buy good wine, imported beers, coffee, bread, (ridiculously expensive) cheese, great beef and a huge range of other meats and fish, good tortillas and Mexican stuff, sauces, kitchen gear etc.
It's not too crowded either, and has a food court. I went last night and spent 35k, enough for the back box on my motorbike.
I've not been to Costco so I can't compare, it just strikes me as odd that when you go your spend is usually in 6 figures. I appreciate most is canned or frozen or divided up between a few people, but having to spend so much must limit time between visits, fresh food purchased? |
