Got one for you (actually, several, but this is a 'must read') :

Korean Patterns, by Dr. Paul Shields Crane.

first edition was in 1967; mine is the 4th/1978 ed. This book may be out of print/hard to find, but boy - does this man know what living/working/loving here is like.

Besides the 8 main chapters (all excellent), there is a wonderful Appendix covering a lot of other little stuff as well.

Just under 200 pages, but a lot to chew on.

G.

And no, you may NOT borrow mine (Denz, Felix, Sprite, etc. - you all can PM me about that)

I like Michael Breen's "The Koreans". I ordered it from Amazon.com last fall - a great read.

Thoughs are all great books and I would like to add another one. It is called Korea and Her Neighbors by Isabella Bishop Bird. It was written in the mid 1890s and it is filled with descriptions of old Korea and the political realities of that time. I have just finish re-reading the book, and I was struck by her social commentary about Korea then, for she could if still alive say the same things today. She says some really insightful observations telling of the good and bad, though the bad seem to come out of now where and you almost have to re-read the lines again. She was to very British in her politeness.
