Were you able to bring your violin as carry-on on your flight to Korea? I really want to bring mine, but will not dare check it. |

I looked into it before flying and the answer was 'not carry-on, use a hard case and check it in'. No way - mine's a Strad, passed down the family for generations. Hence no fiddle at present. |

Wow, that really sucks. Are there (m)any violin shops where I could get something reasonable? |

Haven't seen any - I'll ask around and get back to you, but I doubt the answer will be yes. Phone the airline and see - I'm sure some will let you carry it handbag style. Mine didn't but yours might |

I've taken my violin and a small carry-on 5 or 6 times and I've never had a problem.
I can't add much more to posco's comments.
If you are going to live in Seoul, you should have no problems at all. I live in Busan, so if you come to Busan, I can help you. We could jam together too.
Good luck and don't worry. |

Squaffy: a strad! I envy you...
I've actually been wondering about the whole musical instrument thing. I used to play the cello (I only made it to grade 5) though I'm probably back at beginners level as I haven't picked one up since 1998.
But I'm hankering for a hobby so does anyone have any idea how much would a cello would set me back?
Also anyone know of any really good musicbook stores?

Sorry squaffy,
It's probably not a real Strad. There are only around 500 in existance. |

It is a real one - inherited it with the classic car (other thread about nice cars),
My Grandad used to play in the London Philharmonic.
I don't play the Strad, have 3 others. The Strad is nicely tucked away in a hard case as I'm not going to abuse it - it's an antique.
Want me to show it to you?
Honestly - calling me a liar is not on - I don't post fibs.
Have a Strad and it sounds better than all the other violins I have.
How dare you call BS on a poxy forum when you don't know who the heck ur talking to????????? |

Violin Concerto ('L'estate', The Four Seasons) for violin, strings & continuo in G minor, Op. 8/2, RV 315: 3rd movement (Presto) too...
Am a master violinst.
Love it |

alright, I'll admit it's possible. I am curious, however, if you've ever had it appraised. If not, you really should, and then get it insured.
How many violins do you have? |
