Maybe they value free time more than money. |

Doods, unionize. The average hyundai worker makes 100 million a year.
No matter where the westerner goes, the US or overseas, wages remain flat huh? |

Get published, and get a job at a university in a country which will value you and not see you simply as a robot. With a MA or MS, you might very well be wasting your time in South Korea. |

Then they wouldn't have spent the extra time to obtain a masters degree |

It's called forward thinking. You put in extra time on something short term to reap the long term benefits. |

I wonder what % you would get for seeing that if you had the highest of the highest of the requirements you still would not have 500%?
Teaching Experience a full-time and paid lecturer at a college or university 100% Acknowledged only when appointed by the president of the college or university.
a contract employee assistant appointed by a president of a college or university 70%
Educational Experience PhD. degree holder 100% Acknowledged only if you took classes, and up to 3 years
Well I guess if you can also count the MA you got before the PhD then
M.A. degree holder 100% Acknowledged only if you took classes, and up to 2 years
a full-time researcher, senior researcher, etc. at a research institute established by a national or public organization, or an institute acknowledged by the Minister of Education 100% Acknowledged only if you were paid and appointed by the president of the college or university
100+70+100+100+100 = 470.
And who would have all of these positions appointed by the president of a university? If it means the president signs the contract, then still the highest of the highest would be 470.
PS: I do not teach in any of the universities you mentioned as the best and I make much much more than that. And I have great housing and do not pay rent.
If it were possible to have 500%, this is a crap job. And anyone with what it takes to get the highest I can see possible (470) would have a MUCH MUCH better position.

Well, in any case, I do not think there is a single person on the face of Earth that would have all they need to have the 500% they say you need to just apply. |

After deductions, the job pays about US $2,500.
Is there a salary scale for experience, number of refereed publications, or for those who actually do hold doctorates?
If not, that's a shameful salary.
But then we need to bear in mind that this is not a bona fide faculty position but just a guest instructor job. The people working there aren't considered regular, permanent faculty and so are regarded and treated as such.
I've heard even HongDae pays over 3 million now.
And what's this bullshit about 100% for this or that, or if 6 hours a week or 7 hours a week, or if the teacher was appointed by the president, or if the applicant was not a guest lecturer, or if the applicant's degree was obtained during a 3-year period, and then needing 500% for minimum requirements.
Talk about a byzantine and convoluted evaluation system.
My suggestion for people seriously considering working SNU and some of the SKY type university - avoid them. They are more headache than they are worth. |
