I am shipping the speakers from my home stereo in 3 boxes to Korea. One I plan to take as my 2nd check-in when I fly back. The other two, I plan to send slow-boat via USA mail (5 to 6 weeks).

I am worried about customs charges. Is it true that if they are used, you won't get charged for that? I have written "USED" and korean for "Chung-Ku" on the box, but am still worried I'll get some outrageous customs bill tacked on before i pick them up.

The speakers are a higher-level brand not sold in Korea (Paradigm). Buying new again would be darned expensive. I will insure them when sending, of course.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

the "used" thing is crap, crap, crap. i don't know who told you that, but you should slap them upside the head and alternatively give them a boot to the skull.

now, listen here, pardner. here's what your gonna do.

how much did those speakers cost you? $30? right? of course i'm right (even if i'm wrong--get the picture?!) in fact, any electronics which you ship from home cost you $30-$50 dollars. it's just amazing the deals you can get on e-bay these days. simply amazing. Wink

How about te other way arond, as in shipping the too many things I bought while living here but don't want to sell or give away? Anyone have any idea how anal US Customs will be when I send stuff home? I've been to the Customs website, but find it to be somewhat vague and time-consuming.

I was considering sending a few packages home, mostly with clothes and souvenirs and other assorted whatnot. My plan is to say that they are "personal effects", things that have and will continue to be used.

Any vets have advice or experience to share?
