Slingbox is the new kid on the block and it will destroy cable TV and the Internet as we know it. What it is is an ugly hunk of plastic that shoots out a person's incoming cable signal over his outgoing broadband connection. You, the remote user, uses some special software to tap into that broadband broadcast. As long as your friend back at home has his cable TV box and Slingbox powered on, you can watch any channel coming over his cable wire. Naturally, you need someone back at home to set up a Slingbox and give you access to it.

Why do you encourage people to buy one of these things? Maybe you're just discussing it. Caught up in the excitement. Sure, they're great, but they'll be outlawed very soon.

Think they'll bring about the death of cable TV? They will never get the chance, as a free item. At best, they'll be embraced by cable TV companies, who will charge you extra for the service (a lot extra).

I have family members working for one of the largest cable companies in the USA. This was part of dinner-table discussion recently. Free-use Slingbox will be dead in under a year. The major cable guys are dotting the i's and crossing the t's on the lawsuit as we speak. Then, they'll probably have their own versions online soon afterward; at a price.

You think Korea will not follow suit? They're already outlawing use of internet phones.

Sorry, I was just looking for some info on other slingbox users and came across this post. HAHAHA. Slingbox is still going strong and is the PREMIER company for place shifting your cable box. Granted they did not and will not bring the end to cable, but they won't be outlawed either.

And just to point out, the banning of internet phones in Korea was quickly overturned (and KT now offers the service). My Omma phone is up and running fo 2 years now

How about Magic Jack? Anyone use one of those here? I had one back home and it worked okay--really good considering it was free phone calls for a year. But they always claim you can use it anywhere, is that true?

everyone...i recently stumbled upon this site...i've watched a few games on it...it seems to have a little bit of everything....NHL NBA NFL MLB RUGBY etc.....i watched the phoenix suns game last night.....and a hockey game the other night....however, i tried to watch the denver nuggets game and it was only an audio feed...so I don't know what the percentage of live streams is, but it seems pretty good

http://www.channelsurfing.net/

also...this other site has links to TVU or SOPCAST or a few assorted programs' coverage of sports

Channelsurfing.net was shut down on Feb. 1 and its owner arrested and facing five years in prison.

I know a website where you can watch some channels from home for free. It's tvpc.tv. I was able to watch some games from home. It's totally free as long as you have a broadband internet connection in Korea. Here is the link. http://tvpc.tv/ChannelList.php NOTE-you have to use Internet Explorer in order to have maximum operating efficency.
