Is it actually an island?
Lonely Planet says it is... other books I've read say it is... and maps suggest it is.
But, I went there by bus yesterday from the east side (from Sadang) and could find no evidence of it being an island at all - the only place that could conceivably have carried the Han river around the back of the "island" (near the 63 building) looks like a land reclamation area that's already being constructed on.
Have the crafty Koreans attached Yeouido to the south bank of the Han? Is it no longer an island? Indeed, does it even matter?

As far as I know, they did reclaim the land for parks and highways and for making it easier for the business folks to get to the office. That doesnt keep it from getting flooded during the rainy season though. |
