Hi all,

I've been looking at teaching in Korea for some time but recent events have put me in doubt. I was reading some news on a plane yesterday about North Korea. It said they were beginning to build nuclear weapons? Any opinions on how serious this will become? How are the locals reacting to it? Thanks very much,

Kahfly

There is little concern here about North Korea.

I must admit that before I came to Korea, the nuclear program made me a little nervous. Maybe that's partly why I came to Busan--as far away from the DMZ as I can get.

You will find that Koreans read the papers and usually know what's happening, but there is a curious lack of concern here, perhaps because this sort of bluffing and posturing has gone on for fifty years.

Personally, I wouldn't be afraid to come to Korea. I think the North Koreans are interested in selling atomic weapons, not in using them. And if so, north Americans are in just as much danger as Koreans. What a world.

Anda- I read your post here and just wondered if any of your EPIK supervisors pick-up on your feelings about a war breaking out and how they view your out-look. I doubt they would want you to be a recruiter for EPIK given your current views on N/S Korea. Wink Do you even mention to anyone you work with in EPIK that you are convinced that a war is coming and coming soon? What's their response?

worry? be ready. have your exit door in view. know what you will do if anything begins to rumble but worry? why? south koreans aren't worried. why should you? korea has been through this on more than a few occasions. it fills nobody's agenda to die. for now, i don't see north korea jumping for desperate measures. if they so much as bing their way in then the powers that be will loose everything. no more great leader. it's not in their best interest. they seem to be ok with ruling their little world.

but if anything happens then it'll be huge. big enough to effect everone and everything around. there's just too much to loose for the powers in north korea that i don't see it being worth their while. even if they have the third largest army in the world, or is it the fourth? either way big enough to have people tip-toe around them.

Except for the "voice of doom" that we lovingly call Andamonium, not very many people worry about NK.

But if you want to be safe kahfly you should follow the basic rules of the Anda "The World is Doomed handbook of Survival to imminent but never actually happening wars."

They are as follows:

1) the world will end soon.
2) The world will end real soon
3) We just don't know when but its coming
4) Read every news bit of info with Doom glasses (they will be shipped free by the Anda Doom agency)
With this glasses you will see the "thruth" like for example:

Vancouver gets 2010 winter Olympics....
seems innocent enough but with the ADG's here is the true headline or reason:

[/i]Vancouver got the Olympics because North Korea will attack somtime between now and the year 2999, its coming, be ready.

foreign teacher leaves Korea at end of contract

hmmm...the ADG's tell us: It must be because he got "inside" information about the imminent nuclear war thats coming to the peninsula.

US soldier goes to Itaewon

Hmmm...he must be doing "recon" to make sure no NK special ops are in the "perimeter"

5) Buy a watch and set it a constant 2 minutes to midnight....

with those 5 basic rules you should be ok.

Anda's clock is ticking. After posting another "it's going to start soon" thread, we got him to nail down a due date for war with North Korea a while back, and it's September. No war in September, and he has to plug it.

It may be two minutes to midnight for Anda.

Um sorry Joy & Happyness" followers but if I'm 2 minutes to midnight then you lot are one minute away from it.

I'm so, so unhappy to tell you that everything is falling into place at last for 13 weeks of Hell on Earth. I'd say about a quarter of us will get the chop before Christmas.

Actually Anda, its about quarter to 11pm here...plenty of time.

My question oh Master of Doom:

If you are so certain of the upcomming hell and that a quarter of "us" (I assume by us you mean people in Korea) will "get the chop" why do you stay mate?

Yeah Anda when are you leaving?

I think that all this Doom and Gloom is a cleverly masterminded plot of Anda's to get all the foreign teachers to leave, so that he can be the only one in Korea. Just think of the money he could make! Very Happy
