CELTA like a great way to improve teaching despite Korean unfamiliarity with it. It is unclear, however, from the posts here whether or not the certificate is recognized by GEPIK or EPIK or private schools for the paygrade increase, especially since the contract example cited TEFL.
Can anyone enlighten me? |

I may be wrong but im sure its 100hr TEFL course minimum for the pay increase. Other, better, courses will not increase your pay unless its a masters. SOOOO, just do a cheap online 100hr crappy course so that you have the certificate. I have one from
www.i-to-i.com
Its boring but do-able within a few weeks |

Thanks for the info.
I had thought about doing some schooling via distance. But was not sure what my options are. I have a BSc, not BA. So getting my MA is not really feasible.
Wish there was a creditable way to get a BEd while still working in Korea. Now there is a question! Is it possible to get your BEd while working in Korea? Anyone know?
Thanks! |
I am currently investigating something like this with wgu.edu. It is the only online degree that I have found which is acredited by a "normal" agency. It is acredited by NCATE which is one of the largest (if not the largest) agency in the US. |

do employers care about the "brand" of the certificate?
or is simply having a 100hr+ certificate enough? |

the oxford one is two certificates of 15 hours each, so job wise not really worth much considering they like the 100 hours or more....I'm interested in this thread also, was going to do an online TESOL as Daegu universities are hiring teachers with TESOL and 2 years teaching exp. |
