I used my brain to make this journey, or at least to begin it. But it wasn't my brain that recalled his telephone number, any more than my radio contains the music I hear in my car.

What does the underlined part mean?
1. it wasn't my brain that recalled his telephone number, and it wasn't any more than my radio contains the music I hear in my car.

or

2. it wasn't my brain that recalled his telephone number, and it was any more than my radio contains the music I hrar in my car.

or

any other meaning?

Thanks.

Good question!

The example of the radio was to make clear that, in the same way as the music comes through the radio, not from it, the memory of the phone number came into and through the brain, not from it.

So "any more than", which is the tricky bit here, basically means "just like it isn't..."

" it wasn't my brain that recalled his telephone number, just like it isn't my radio that contains the music I hear in my car."

More or less! Smile

Hope helps,
Ian
