First of all, I don't agree with the ban on corporal punishment.
Of course, I've seen many teachers on the headline news for their abusive violence on the students.
I don't know exactly how often that kind of accidents happen,
but that's the problem of teachers' qualification, not of the act of punishing itself.
To prevent such accidents from happening again, it would be more appropriate to
raise the level of punishment on the violent teachers rather than to deprive all the teachers
of their right to use corporal punishment.
However, I would suggest two conditions for using corporal punishment.
First, teachers should not give the rod out of anger: it could be seen just as a violence,
not as a punishment that guides the students to a right direction.
And try to avoid using corporal punishment to the students over 3rd grades in the elementary school,
who are more likely to rise against any kind of pressure or discipline than to regret their bad behaviors.
In that case, corporal punishment would work in the opposite way of what teachers intended.
Besides, students who have sensitive and vulnerable personality can get easily hurt and shut their minds to the teachers.

Opponents believe that other disciplinary methods are equally or more effective. Some regard it as tantamount to violence or abuse.
