1) Which is subject?
The invention of silicon chip or The invention
2) Which is compliment?
a landmark in the history of thechnology or a landmark

It seems to me "of the silicon chip" is a modifier explaining which invention, and "in the history of technology" is likewise a modifier for "landmark". It depends why you need to know the answer. "The invention is a landmark" doesn't have the same information in it. |
