'as recalled the conversation' is a typo? I cannot make it.

One senator who listened as the president revived his doubts about Mr. Obama’s birth certificate chuckled on Tuesday as recalled the conversation.

Yes. It should be "as he recalled the conversation" or "while recalling the conversation" or something like that.

"as he recalled" might be one, but using punctuation is another. you should use a comma before "chuckled". And also a comma after one senator. That should solve the error i guess.

So you think that "One senator, who listened as the president revived his doubts about Mr. Obama’s birth certificate, chuckled on Tuesday as recalled the conversation." is correct? Because for me, there is a "he" that is needed between "as" and "recalled". It's a far worse error to me than the punctuation.
