Is it correct to use the commas around "Peter" in the sentence below? If so, would you please explain why the commas are needed?

My brother, Peter, is an architect.

Thank you.

I wouldn't use the commas either, whether they are grammatical or not Wink. So I can't explain it. It's such a short sentence. If it were something like, "My brother Peter, who is an architect, lives in a different city than I do" it would make more sense to use them.
