Have you ever heard about this song?
It is described as a invitation from devil.
Over hundred of people self-murder after listened the song.
Here are the lyrics below.

GLOOMY SUNDAY - The Lyrics

Music by Rezso Seress
Original Text by Laszlo Javor
English Text by Sam M. Lewis

Sunday is Gloomy,
My hours are slumberless,
Dearest, the shadows I live with are numberless
Little white flowers will never awaken you
Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thought of ever returning you
Would they be angry if I thought of joining you
Gloomy Sunday

Sunday is gloomy
with shadows I spend it all
My heart and I have decided to end it all
Soon there’ll be flowers and prayers that are sad,
I know, let them not weep,
Let them know that I’m glad to go

Death is no dream,
For in death I’m caressing you
With the last breath of my soul I’ll be blessing you
Gloomy Sunday

Dreaming
I was only dreaming
I wake and I find you
Asleep in the deep of
My heart
Dear

Darling I hope that my dream never haunted you
My heart is telling you how much I wanted you
Gloomy Sunday

i've never listen to this song ,but i 've heard people say that myraid of people took their life after hearing this songs------gloomy sunday!

But i doubt that is it really true that numerous people end their life just because of a song? It seems exaggerative and ridiculous ! where's peoples' sanity gone? they all lose their sanity?

so do you believe this mystery?

I know it is unbelievable,
but i do think that it can be resonable.

Why do I say this?
I can take a simple example,
Good music can make people feeling happy and relaxing.

Back to this song,
the melody and lyric may cause people feeling gloomy,
and lead them walking to death.

Of course,
everyone has different feeling.
At least I don't have any self-murder sense so far.

Actually,
I like all of good music,
no matter any kinds of it.
I know it is very normative.

In my defination,
the melody of good music can make you forgetting the world,
and you will feel enjoyable on it.
Apart from that,
the best music is required a meaningful lyric.

In my opinion,
GLOOMY SUNDAY is not a good music indeed.

According to some studies, many people are more moved by music than by sex!
I am fond of classical music and some of it moves me to tears. These are not tears of sadness but the effect that beautiful music has on my soul.
It is easy to understand that a very sad song, such as "Gloomy Sunday", could havea serious effect on a person who was already depressed over the death of a loved one. In an extreme case it might be enough to push a person thinking about suicide into actually killing himself.
Music is very powerful.

yes, pugachevV,
Music is very powerful,
I totally agree with you.

I don't know if you listened GLOOMY SUNDAY or not,
but in my opinion,
the song gave me a simple message,
"Don't afraid of death, come and join us."
I think the song can affect two kinds of people.

Firstly,
if someone who is very depress,
he would be "stimunated" to self-murder by the song.

Secondly,
some easy-going people would listen the message,
and are persuaded to choose death.

Do you feel the last stanza has a different mood from the first two stanzas? In her dream, he was dead and she wanted badly to go with him. Why "death is no dream" ? Still, it is all but a dream. The song is not full of gloom.

For her ability to create a robusto (powerful) mood to the song, I like Bjork's singing rather than Sarah Brightman's (She seems to rather be short of breath.) However, all they sing are not the original one (much gloomier), which triggered a suicidal mania in Europe.

The following is what I found out on net:

The original song was written in 1933 by two Hungarians, Rezs Seress (music) and Lszl Jvor (lyrics), and consisted of the first two stanza only -- the last stanza was added later.

This is Zo's translation of the original Hungarian song:
LSZL JVOR:

On a sad Sunday with a hundred white flowers,
I was waiting for you my dearest with a prayer.
A Sunday morning, chasing after my dreams,
The carriage of my sorrow returned to me without you.
It is since then that my Sundays have been forever sad ...
Sad Sunday
This last Sunday, my darling please come to me
There'll be a priest, a coffin, a catafalque and a winding-sheet.
There'll be flowers for you, flowers and a coffin,
Under the blossoming trees it will be my last journey.
My eyes will be open, so that I could see you for a last time,
Don't be afraid of my eyes, I'll be blessing you in your death ...
The last Sunday.

REZS SERESS:

It is autumn and the leaves are falling,
All love has died on earth.
The wind is weeping with sorrowful tears,
My heart will never hope for a new spring again.
My tears and my sorrows are all in vain,
People are heartless, greedy and wicked ...
Love has died!
The world has come to its end, hope has ceased to have a meaning
Cities are being wiped out,
Meadows are colored red with human blood,
There are dead people on the streets everywhere.
I will say another quiet prayer:
People are sinners, Lord, they make mistakes ...
The world has ended!

I can feel the person in the song is hate the world very much,
the world in his eyes is hopeless,
so dead is a better way than live.

He lost his love and wrote a song full of hatred. (Sigh...)

Music is a powerful tool. Many stores and restaurants also use music as a psychological gimmick. "Store music" usually encourages or reminds customers of shopping.

Right,
music can be a good communcation tool.

A message can be transfered to us through the melody and lyraic,
it can explain why some people go to dead after listening it.

Hello everybody! Very Happy
Many people don't believe in subliminal messages, but it's a true fact that our mind has different process, and it takes the information in different ways. Musicians take advantage of this to send messages (good or bad messages) by concious or unconcious ways.

Reverse Phonetics (or backmasking) is one of them. Also hidden voices or chorus, and so on.

Confused Some people ignore it, but music is a huge mean of brain eraser. Sadly, current music isn't clear enough. It's pretty nasty!
- I make it clear, most of the music, not ALL the music.

Wink See you!

winnie-luck!

i like piano better than keyboard though keyboard has many more sounds because on piano every note you play the sound and message is straight from your own hands, in speed strength and voicing.
of course, the music i am hearing in my mind doesn't always come the same way out of my hands...
why anyone would want to bring a gift like music down to serve disaster? i really do not understand. you can live within your music so freely that you are no longer aware of time.
