Is anyone else THRILLED with the midterm election results?
We've got:
-The first female house speaker (Nancy Pelosi)
-A socialist senator (Bernie Sanders)
-Democrats have control of congress (a 33-person advantage in the house and a 2-person lead in the senate)
I'm literally jumping around the house in hysterics! 
Any opinions? (Disagreements are fine too  )

I'm 100% jazzed!
I'll be opening a special bottle of wine to celebrate tonight.
Now let's just hope the Democrats can get a good plan and a spine.

I thought it was pretty funny that the Republicans immediately started talking about how it is time to work together to solve the problems -- having created the problems themselves and having refused to work together for the last six years at least, unless you count vilifying patriots as working together.
Now my prediction: Whether the war ends or drags on, the Democrats will be blamed for failing to restore the world to perfect peace and harmony before the end of the year.

I was happy when I heared that democrats won in both houses of the congress. Although I doubt the Iraq war will end very soon, I'm still thrilled that Badboy Bush finally goes.

YES! Anything the Democrats don't do perfectly now will totally be counted against them. There's a lot of pressure from all sides.
Bush leaves the Democrats in an awful position, and it's nearly impossible to fix everything he screwed up, but if they DON'T fix it all, they'll be blamed for it too...

Not that I'm an authority on US politics (I'm not one in Indian politics either), but I read that it was Ms. Pelosi who said, "We will do so working together with the administation and the Republicans in Congress in partnership not in partisanship."
Anyway, is it not all the dirty game of politics? And it is so universal. |

Did you notice the phrase "US politics" in my post above? Why didn't I say "USA politics"? Is it that when it is a modifier, you say 'US' and not 'USA'? |

Heh, good question! I never noticed that...
About Pelosi-- yes, you're right. The difference, though, is that she NEVER really had a "let's kill the Republicans" opinion, she was in that "let's work together" thing all the way through. Whereas Bush switched from "I hate Democrats" to "let's work together" immidiately after the election (pretty sketchy).
Like you said, it IS the dirty game of politics, and I'm sure very few of them actually DO want to work together, but Pelosi wasn't a flip-flopper with that, at least. She lied the whole way through 
Just kidding, of course. (Partially). I LOVE Pelosi

Interesting... I think 'USA' is a proper noun, the formal official name of the US. Whereas 'US' sounds more like an adjective (like 'American' but many people would complain 'American' is too broad and not politically correct)... e.g. US Senate, US Congress, US embassy, US dollars... etc.
Two years left... what do you think the chances of a Democrat-controlled White House and Congress? Who do you think would be the "better" candidate? Obama? Clinton? Pelosi? |

They'd all be absolutely wonderful, but are unlikely to get elected. I'm a BIG Hilary Clinton fan, but I know it's not a very practical or likely wish...
What about Joe Biden? He seems like a smart and kind enough guy to vote for, but can still "play the game" of politics pretty well... He seems more mainstream enough to be a possibility.

Just took a look at the polls, and was pleasantly surprised to see Clinton at the top!! Wow!!

You mean her going on about the Republican culture of corruption wasn't an example of typical partisan politics? (As if the Democrats were as pure as the driven snow.) But it doesn't really matter. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. They'll pass a couple of notable pieces of legislation (probably a minimum wage hike), then go right back into pork barrel spending and feeding at the public teet. Power corrupts. Seen it, been there, done that.

Bob, I think nobody of us expected the democrats to save the whole world, to end the Iraq war very fastly etc. But the situation with Bush is going to get worse rapidly step by step. If the democrats could only let the deterioration stop or go a bit slower, it would be something good. We shouldn't expect to much, but we should be happy about a little hope in this bad situation.
