We are middle school students in Korea.
There is a taboo in every country.
We have many taboos, for example
"Don't step on a door sill."
"Don't trim your nail."
"Don't whistle at night."
Where does it come from?
What kinds of taboo do you have in your country?
Please, give your replies

hi~ I'm korean..
I wanna introduce some taboo in korea~
After reading this, plz give me some information about the taboo in your country..^^:;; plz~~~
In Korea, we usually believe(?) that "if u eat a brown seaweed soup or an egg in the morning at a test day, U'll fail to the test" It's a common taboo~ so, U should be careful at the test day~^^;;
Ah~ I'll tell u more taboo about a test...
When you give a present before a test, you can give something like this - spoon, folk, tissue, taffy, mirror, etc....
They have a meaning each other...^^:; Anyway, it's all for wishing the pass..^_^
How's my story~?^^
Now, it's your turn~ what are u waiting for~~~~??? |

Hi all,
I think you mean "superstitions" rather than "taboo". If something is taboo, it's something that people don't like to talk about (like sex). This also varies from culture to culture, we Brits seem to be the most uptight!
A superstition is something that is unlucky or is done to avoid bad luck. Typical British examples would be: don't walk under a ladder (people prefer to step off the pavement onto the road, rather that walking under a ladder!); breaking a mirror gives you 7 years bad luck; and if you spill salt, you should throw some over your left shoulder.
Silly really!

Hello!! I am a university student in Japan now.
I think also it was superstitions. In Japan there are a lot of superstitions too. For example, if you see a hearse, you must hide your thumbs. otherwise, your parents will die early. When you will have a exam,if you eat pork cutlet, you will pass a exam. Do you believe? I do tihis action.

I'm a college student in Japan.
I know a taboo that you must not cut your nail at night.
Otherwise, you will miss the moment of your parent's death....
So, I decide that I don't cut my nail at night.
In addition to that, you must not step on frame of tatami.
This is only in Japan.
About this, I don't know why this taboo made?
How is Japan's taboo?
Please tell me about taboo of your country! _________________ eri

Bonjour! Hallo! Hello! Hola!
I'm Colombian.
I don't believe in taboos, so I don't know many of them. The few I know are:
- Don't walk under long stairs
- Avoid black cats... Booh!
- If you break a mirror... Seven years of bad luck!
- When you throw salt away, you'll have seven years of bad luck. To mend it, throw a little of it on your right shoulder.
- The famous "getting up with the left foot"
- Place your umbrella in a right position to avoid bad luck.
There are many of them! It's not an endless list, but it's to large for my little brain.
What about your country?
Good-bye! _________________ Sweet like Honey

Hello I am a Japanese college student.
The taboo which I know is "not eating tempura and a watermelon together."
Seemingly, a burden will be applied to the stomach and intestines which has weakened if fatty tempura and a cold thing are eaten together in summer.
Do you know the taboo about food? |
