It doesn't sound right to me. In general, a present perfect doesn't sound right with a time word in the past. I would probably say:
"They asked me about something I had said years ago." or
"They asked me about something I said years ago."
(I think the first one is considered more "correct" if you are taking a test, but the second is used in common conversation.)
