would you please explain to me the meaning of this idiom with some
example ?

the idiom is " to give someone a run for thier money"

"To give someone a run for their money" means to offer a serious challenge to someone, for example in a competition.

The home team thought that the visitors were going to be a walkover (that is: very easy to beat) but they really gave them a run for their money!
