Packing a column


As a chemistry major, we have to learn the way to separate the solution in which multiple kinds of compounds dissolving. It�s the first step if you get yourself in a lab where you will complete your report on a designated topic. There are procedures that we stuff a great column with gel which makes various kinds of solution has different speeds when they pass through it, so that the compounds can be separated. First of all, wearing your mask and goggles for protecting your lungs and eyes from plastic dust that will make them atrophy and infected, you start to put some gel which is still dry, like white and tiny dust, to your beaker, and then pour some pure water to gel slowly and carefully, stirring the cup of gel into stiff paste. Packing the column comes next. You drop the stiff gel out with a spoon to a clean column, noticing your density while you are packing, keeping stirring to deter the gel from the precipitation, making every layer, every part in a same scale of thickness as you can. Were it not in an average concentration, your results will face many and tough troubles, such disasters as that your compound won�t segregate clearly from others, which will make you crazy and consume much of your time unexpectedly. Despite only two steps we mentioned, they are the most important factors concerning your success or not in the experiments.
