It's about having a wall between two properties and how there is some mysterious force that every winter makes holes in it.
In the spring he and his neighbour repair it because good fences makes good neigbours.
But there is nothing on either side that needs to be walled in. There are only trees on both sides. Trees do not stray as cows do.
His neighbour cannot see the pointlessness of maintaining the wall because he learned from his father that good fences make good neighbours. |

The poem can be interpreted in many different ways. For example, it can be about living in a community.
Maybe reading Frost's "The Road Not Taken" can give you a better insight of the poem. |
