Yes, Italian, Chinese and Indian food are commercially viable.
Indian spices are responsible for a lot of history.
In ancient times, a lot of people from Europe used to sail to India (via the Suez Canal) for trade and for the spices.
In the 15th century, when Constantinople (Istanbul) was captured by the Turks, there was a need to discover new sea routes to India.
Vasco da Gama (a Portuguese sailor) discovered a new sea route around the African continent.
Later on, as everyone knows, Amerigo Vespucci (or was it Columbus?) again sailed towards the West - as, by then, it was proved that the earth is round, and they wanted to reach India. But they found America on the way.

I thought Christopher Columbus is the first one who step on American and is the one who wants to prove that the world is round?

To me it's more of: Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Indian, and then Thai.
