I'm looking for books that are about the current Culture in Japan. Most books I find are about ancient Japan. I'm sure some traditions are still there, but Western influences have surely... influenced the culture into a different direction.

For a traveler, get a copy of Culture Shock! Japan (the Culture Shock series covers a number of countries).

For thought-provoking reading (you may not agree with it all, but worth checking out anyway) is:
Dogs and Demons by Alex Kerr
Shutting Out the Sun: How Japan Created Its Own Lost Generation by Michael Zielenziger
Shadows of the Rising Sun: A Critical View of the Japanese Miracle by Jared Taylor
Notes from Toyota-Land: An American Engineer in Japan by Darius Mehri

For a general discussion from another board about such books, see the link here.
