You could consider basing yourself in Nagoya from where you can quickly travel to Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Gifu and other popular cities, which have many beautiful & historic sites to visit, by train, air or bus (depending on your budget). Haven't looked into it for a while (it's been 12 years since my last trip) but there used to be a Japan Rail Pass, which will help you save money when you are there - but you can only buy it outside the country so enquire at your local travel agent.

Enjoy your trip, and if you do decide to go to Nagoya can I recommend a visit to Nagoya Port and having a lunch or dinner on the top storey of Sky Tower (within the grounds of Higashiyama Zoo).

Climb Mt Fuji.
I wouldn't call it "fun" but you won't forget the experience!

If you have only one week to visit in Japan I would recomend going to some big cities like Tokyo, Osaka etc....Because you can enjoy shopping, going to a theme park and meeting interesting people Smile Or if you want to see Japanese culture more than going to shop, i recommend visiting Kyoto!! The city is very beautiful and has some famouse temples. So you must be able to enjoy seeing Japanese culture:)

If you want to relax I do want you to visit Okinawa! It doesnt have any big shopping malls and theme park. But there is beautiful beach!!you can lie down on the beach and drink beers or *beep* Smile you must love it!!!!
