Would you help me with the following grammar problem? Which one is better option, or do you have any suggestions? (The context: Survey respondents were mostly parents with a few grandparents or guardians)
1) Regarding the gender ratio of the survey respondents, the number of mothers was twice as many as the participating fathers.
2) Regarding the gender ratio of the survey respondents, the number of mothers was twice as much as the participating fathers. |

Here are my suggestions:
1. Regarding the gender ratio of the survey respondents, the number of participating mothers was twice the number of participating fathers.
2. Regarding the gender ratio of the survey respondents, the number of participating mothers was two times the number of participating fathers.
3. Regarding the gender ratio of the survey respondents, the number of participating mothers was twice that of participating fathers.
4. Regarding the gender ratio of the survey respondents, the number of participating mothers was two times that of participating fathers.

Yes. For me, twice sounds a bit better than two times.
And neither of the original suggestions works. You could also say
...the number of mothers participating was twice as high as the number of fathers.
or
...there were twice as many mothers as fathers participating.
