Would you explain a pun below?
A malapropism walks into a bar, looking for all intensive purposes like a wolf in cheap clothing, muttering epitaphs and casting dispersions on his magnificent other, who takes him for granite _________________ Hiromichi |

(This is a take off on many jokes which start, " a ___ and a ___ walk into a bar" such as "A policeman and a fireman walk into a bar" etc. ) A malapropism is "the mistaken use of a word in place of a similar-sounding one, often with unintentionally amusing effect".
So the "malapropism" is going to use the wrong words. "looking for all intensive purposes" should be "looking for all intents and purposes." "Like a wolf in cheap clothing" should be "Like a wolf in sheep's clothing" I am not sure what "muttering epitaphs" is supposed to be, but it was quite interesting when I googled "muttering epitaphs" and found a lot of examples of the same joke, going back to February at least. Anyway, "casting dispersions" should be "casting aspersions" . "magnificent other" should be "significant other" and "takes him for granite" should be "takes him for granted". |
