Hi, everyone!! My names Yuri. Im a womans college student in Japan.
Now, Im investigating about gender bias. I think there is established
manly or womanly behavior in Japan. What is mens behavior? What is
womens behavior? When I was a child, I was told many times, Behave
like a woman! For example, my father said, Do housework because youre
a girl. I felt unpleasant. Did you have the similar experience? I think
both boys and girls should do housework. What do you think of my opinion?
Would you answer the questions?

Questions

1. What is your sex? (man or woman)

2. How old are you?

3. What is your nationality (country)?

4. What toy did you play with when you were a child?

(a) Stuffed animals (b) toy robot (c) doll (d) toy car

(e) others [What kind of toys? Please specify.]

5. What did you want to be when you were a child?

6. Were you told Behave like a man? Who said so? (man)

Were you told Behave like a woman? Who said so? (woman)

7. Were you told Dont cry because youre a boy? How did you feel?
(man)

Were you told Do housework because youre a girl? How did you feel?
(woman)

8. Do you think men should work outside of home?

9. Do you think women should do housework?

1. What is your sex? (man or woman)
man

2. How old are you?
21

3. What is your nationality (country)?
USA

4. What toy did you play with when you were a child?
I watched mostly insects and played with animals. Yes, I'm completely anti-social Wink. I had some stuffed toys like teddy bears, and some toy cars. I mostly played with computers though inside.
I guess that is a, c . d and e.. there were no toy robots back then Razz.

5. What did you want to be when you were a child?
Astronaut or a teacher

6. Were you told Behave like a man? Who said so? (man)
I don't remember any time while as a child specifically, but I'd say it was a safe bet it happened. Recently it usually happens when I am too "caring" about others, i just say I would rather be human Razz. Oddly it seems both men and woman say this about the same, but men say it in a more harsh tone. While it's usually meant as a joke from woman.

7. Were you told Dont cry because youre a boy? How did you feel?
yes, while playing football. I never went out for a sport in high school even though most said I should since I was good at a few.. i guess I felt pretty bad.

I'm guessing for 8 and 9 you meant only work outside the home, and only do housework?

8. & 9) I think both men and woman should work and do housework. When there is one or more kids I think one should stay home at least part time if there are no retired relatives to raise them while the parents are at work. Which sex I don't think it matters.

1. woman.
2. don't like to post my age on line; but i'm under 25, if it's any help.
3. Russia/Israel/USA
4. Barbies, dolls and computer games.
5. An artist
6. Yes. My parents said so when I didn't want to do house work, or when ever I prefered to wear pants or to be "dirty" instead of wearing nice dresses.
7. Yes, whenever I didn't feel like doing it.
8. & 9. Men and women should do whatever they like, they should always have that option! Ideally, men and women should equally share housework and out side work.
