Flash XML and e-learning tutorial for non-programmers
Hey guys, I know I should post this in the CALL section but I really want opinions from people with little or no experience of using computers for e-learning. If you're CALL savvy then you're opinion is welcome too, of course. Check out the "Watch Introductory Flash XML Tutorial Video" link on my Wi...

Hi fractal, The dictations are 'under review' at the moment. In other words, I'm giving them a big overhaul to make them better, more dynamic, and to include all sorts of Learning Management System related functions. I compiled the old ones in Actionscript 2.0 and now I'm compiling them in Actionscr...

The dictations I created, one for essay type recordings like news items and lectures and another for dialogues i.e. two people having a conversation so you have to listen and write either one or both sides of the conversation. I've tried them out on volunteer students and ex-students of mine to get ...

Drupal's a content management system isn't it? I've heard of it but don't have any direct experience with it. Moodle is more like a CMS than an LMS (an LCMS?) - it doesn't profile students' performance, it only records their results for each activity independently. How does your system work? How do ...

Well, all I got were threats. I followed it up and got no response from them whatsoever. I don't know about US copyright law but in the UK you can't copyright a word or any group of letters. Copyright theft could only be proven if you copied their fonts, logos or trademarks, or attempted to imperson...

I know. I've actually tried to talk to Time Warner about creating materials for classroom use and to come up with some kind of mutually amicable agreement but they don't want anything to do with it. Basically, all I got were threats of legal action. Well, we know that the majority of teachers just u...

Hi iLearner.eu, Thanks for the offer of help. I'm a Flash developer working in eLearning so I'm used to working with databases, dynamic content, etc. Moodle has got a Flash plug-in of sorts that was written in the early days of Flash MX2004 (version 6) for the Universitat Autonima de Barcelona to a ...

Some constructive (I hope) feedback: Mmm... flash cards. They're an excellent resource when used by an experienced teacher but on their own? From a student's point of view, think about: # How do I pronounce this word? # How do I use this word? # Can I have some examples? # When/Where do we commonly ...

Chat rooms? Have a look at what goes on in the student chat rooms here. I've also used chat rooms to try to improve my Spanish. Personally, I don't recommend chat rooms to my students. I think most of what goes on isn't helpful and there's a lot of very poor and inappropriate language use. In my opi...

Learning Management Systems - Do you use them?
Hi all, I'm getting into using Moodle, a learning management system, for use with a small 'guineapig' group of volunteer students. I think the needs of EFL students are a lot more demanding of media that your typical university/college course and I'm wondering what experiences other people have had ...

Great stuff jotham! A really good extract that illustrates the perils of creating 'derivative works'. To my eyes, the main body of the presecutor's case was that the book extensively used copright materials from the Seinfeld TV show, so this is outright copyright theft. The more interesting part is ...
