I do not think it is pointless at all. I think Content Based Learning is the only way to go in ESL once you get past a certain point.

If you need to go over some Halloween vocabulary you can try some of these Halloween worksheets.

Here is an idea. Have your students write a talking halloween card to you or each other. This ghost card converts written word into spoken word so that they get some listening practice. I also send one card to each of my students and have them check with me that they understood it.
